Already for the 10th time this Map Fair, organized in the Netherlands,
will take place in the beautifully restored "Grote of Onze Lieve Vrouwe
Kerk", situated in the historical centre of Breda. The number of
participating map dealers has known a steady increase since the first
Map Fair. From the start the offers for sale have been of a great
variety, such as loose maps and prints, maps either framed or in
passe-partouts, rare atlases, a wide selection of modern
reference-books, in addition to globes original ones as well as in
facsimile and large wall maps.

Next to antiquarian booksellers also restoration-studio's and
non-profit-institutions concerning historical cartography were
participating. Five times The Foundation Historical Cartography of the
Netherlands succeeded in organizing an attractive exhibition combined
with the Fair.

In November 1998 The European Map Fair held its first exhibition in the Grote Kerk of Breda in the Netherlands.

The European Map Fair is organized by the Foundation of Historical Cartography of the Netherlands (Stichting Historische Cartografie van de Nederlanden). This foundation collects money to support historical map research and publications. The foundation is working closely with the Historical Map department at the University of Utrecht.

All the employees of the European Map Fair are working on a non profit base.
From the very first beginning the European Map Fair was a big success.
Dealers in old maps, atlasses and globes from all over Europe were very enthousiastic about the posibilities of the European Map Fair.

The 14th century beautiful interior of the Grote Kerk was off course part of it. The Map Fair includes an exhibition about a historical map subject.

Breda is a central place in Europe and is very accessible. From the airports at Amsterdam and Brussels, it is only a little more than one hour away by train or car. That's why it is not a surprise that the European Map Fair has had many international visitors.
