A brass proportional compass or dividers with curved pointers or hook ended, circa 1800.
An unusual brass and steel hook ended, probably English, proportional compass with an unique and reducing scale for the lines (1/2 until 1/14). This kind of curved pointers proportionnal dividers mixes the usual form of the proportional instrument with the early multiple pointers dividers or the German triangular dividers with pointers from the late eighteenth century.
The other and later samilar examples we could find were signed by English makers (BJ Hall and Stanley), so we think this kind of special is enough typical from English production. A small lack at the extremity of one pointer, otherwise fine original condition for this early example of hood ended proportionnal dividers.
