OFFICIAL
BUSINESS
Dealer who have not yet filled in the registration form are
requested doing so as soon as possible.
Participants who have not yet submitted their passportnumber/drivers license numbers and
registration number of their business at any official registery (for Americans EIN or Sales Tax Nr) have to
do so as soon as possible. European dealers need to provide their VAT numbers. French dealers need to
provide their "No récépissé de revendeur d'objets mobiliers" and "Numero de registre du commerce".
Some of you have asked us about TVA (or VAT-BTW) in France (or better Europe). We have
contacted Alan Franklin Transport -Specialist carriers of Antiques and fine arts. According to their
information:
European dealers:
A dealer from within Europe has to declare his sales tax at his home country, same way as he usually does. He
also has to use his home country TVA rate.
If a European dealer sells to a European dealer with a TVA number (but who is not a country fellow men), the
seller does not have to charge TVA to the buyer.
If a European dealer sells to a person from outside Europe, the buyer has to sign a paper, declaring that he
will take the goods out of Europe, and the seller does not has to charge TVA to the buyer.
Non-European dealers:
A non European dealer entering France (Europe) has
to file a "temporary Import of goods".
When the goods are leaving Europe, the non-European dealer has to pay TVA (5.5% on books and atlases and
19.6% on maps and prints) on sold items.
This is usually done by your preferred carrier.
Please be advised that this advise is not legally binding and you can not use this in any
dispute. Be also advised that the matter is very complicated and several sources are giving different
answers. The above is what we have heard most.
Alan Franklin Transport Paris, is specialized in import and exporting arts from USA into
Europe. Should you want to use their service.

This late 20's style, very centrally located hotel on boulevard Haussmann, is a first
class, four star historic hotel featuring a truly Parisian atmosphere, with crystal chandeliers, paintings
and antiques. The property has a renowned gourmet restaurant and piano cocktail bar. The Hotel
Ambassador stands nearly on top of the site of the “Hotel Tetebout” (in today's Ninth Arrondissement) where
Thomas Jefferson, his daughter, Martha, and his slave, James Hemings, spent most of their first year in
Paris. It was at the Hotel Ambassador that Charles Lindbergh was feted after he made the
first solo flight across the Atlantic from a rainy airstrip on Long Island to Paris in 1927.

A good deal is
Hotel Peletier Hausmann, starting at euros 100 and only a few hundred meters away.
Location:
Surrounded by Baron Haussmann's celebrated boulevards, the Hotel Ambassador is in a quiet oasis for
business and leisure. A pharmacy, post office, newsstand, and many interesting small shops and
restaurants of all sorts are within a few minutes walk of the hotel.
Attractions within one mile/3km: Champs Elysee, Notre Dame, Opera Garnier, Place Vendome, and
the well known traditional grands magasins (department stores) Galeries Lafayette and Au
Printemps, and the Stock Exchange. The Louvre Museum is a 15-20 minutes walk south and the charming Montmartre area is a 10
minute walk north (the view of Montmartre's monumental Sacré Coeur from the corner of Rue Laffitte and
Boulevard Haussmann, just east of the hotel, is breathtaking).
There are also a number of early 19th century Passages/Galeries (arcades),
including the extensive Passage des Panoramas, near the hotel. As the Eyewitness Travel Guide to
Paris says: "At the time of their construction, the Galeries represented a new traffic free area for
commerce, workshops and apartments. They fell into disuse but were dramatically revamped in the 1970s
and now house an eclectic mixture of small shops selling anything from designer jewelry to rare books.
They have high, vaulted roofs of iron and glass."
