Saturday, 12 September 2026, in The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam
The third Amsterdam Map Fair will be held at the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam on Saturday, 12 September 2026. 10.00 - 17.00.
Free entry to The Maritime Museum, 33 national and international antiquarian map dealers will sell antique nautical charts, maps, atlases, globes and prints.
With three lectures.

The old maps presented at the fair take the visitor on a journey around the world spanning 450 years. In addition to old sea maps of the Dutch coast, land and sea maps of distant regions and countries are also for sale.
The oldest maps date to the late 15th century, and the most recent to the early 20th century. Globes, atlases, city maps, and views are also on display.

Map production began in Italy at the end of the 15th century and later in Antwerp. Dutch mapmakers such as Willem and Joan Blaeu, Henricus Hondius, Johannes Janssonius, Frederick de Wit, Nicolas Visscher and many others determined how people saw the world in the 17th century.
Maps have influenced the course of world history. They were used to settle conflicts, to construct roads or canals on essential shipping routes, and as propaganda tools during battles.

10:00 Opening of the fair. Visitors to the map fair have free entry to the Museum on that day.

12:00 Martijn Storms (Curator of Maps and Atlases at Leiden University Libraries). In his lecture, *The Map Collection of Bodel Nijenhuis*, he discusses a number of auctions (of deceased collectors) where the Leiden collector Johannes Tiberius Bodel Nijenhuis (1797-1872) made his mark.

16:00 Paula van Gestel has been affiliated with the historical cartographic research program Explokart at the University of Amsterdam since 1991. In this lecture, a preliminary result of ongoing research into wall maps published in the Netherlands is presented.
The criteria, composition, sources, their interpretation, and exclusions are discussed. Sales and trade are also addressed, and the various publishers are placed in the context of their time.

Virtual exhibition of antique maps of Amsterdam

A virtual exhibition of antique maps and city views of Amsterdam has been set up ahead of the fair. The maps and prints are all for sale, and a link takes you directly to the dealer's website, where you can find more detailed information.





Getting there



The National Maritime Museum is only a 15-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Follow Prins Hendrikkade east and see the docked replica ship ‘Amsterdam’, on your left. We're at Kattenburgerplein 1.

Travel by car
Take the A10 Ring Road North and exit S116 (IJ tunnel). 

Four parking garages are near The National Maritime Museum (Markenhoven, Oosterdok, Oostenburgereiland and De Loodsen). 

Affordable parking
If you travel by public transport, you can park for less at P+R Zeeburg. Take Tram 26 towards Central Station. It stops near the museum—stop Kattenburgerstraat.
Street parking is available but very limited.
Electric charging stations for the car can be found at Kattenburgerstraat 116 and Kadijksplein 18. Check the Municipality of Amsterdam's website for more charging stations.
