Prof. Frank Lestringant talks about André Thevet.

Who was André Thevet (1516-1892)

This Franciscan monk, born in 1516 in Angoulême, was in reality little attracted to religion. He preferred to undertake long voyages, particularly in the Mediterranean, from which he drew the material for his work Cosmographie de Levant, published in 1554.
He is best known for participating as a chaplain in Nicolas de Villegagnon's expedition to establish a French colony in Brazil. He was one of the first travelers to observe not only the fauna and flora, but also the indigenous populations. Upon his return, he drew from his stay in the bay of Rio de Janeiro the material for a new book, Les Singularitez de la France Antarctica (1557).

This is a partial registration of part of a presentation by Prof. Frank Lestringant made on 16 September at Millon in Paris.
Frank Lestringant discussed the recently discovered Isolario by André Thévet.
