Inverted compass called "snitch" in wood painted in imitation of tortoiseshell and brass, signed "Ing MANN Maker Water Street Liverpool".

This map shows Holland in great detail, including small towns, walled cities, rivers and lakes (many of which were reclaimed in the 17th century, and no longer exist). A coat of arms is in the upper left corner of the map image. In the ocean, there are many sailing ships and smaller fishing boats. An intricate compass rose is in the upper middle area. A very decorative map of the Dutch provinces of Friesland, Groningen and Drente and of the German Province of Friesland.

This is John Tallis’ map of East Canada or what is now Quebec and New Brunswick. Includes Montreal, Quebec City, and the St. Lawrence River valley. Features five vignettes which include American Indian warriors and a spectacular view of Quebec City. The whole is surrounded by a decorative vine motif border. Two engravings. [514] On 29th May, 1615, Spilbergen’s fleet anchored further north, off an island called Santa María that was separated by a narrow stretch of water (A), from Punta Lavapié on the mainland. Four of the ships (I) anchored in the bay, while the fifth (H) anchored closer. The Dutch went ashore in small boats (F), where they saw Spanish soldiers on horseback (B), so they arranged themselves for battle (C).
