- 2 sheets joined and laid down on a sheet of blue paper. Good and dark impression. 2 folds as issued. Faint traces of humidity along upper margin, slightly frayed. Repair of 3, 2cm long, tears along the juncture of the sheets.

Description
Very large and rare so-called Blue Back chart centered on the strait passing between the Riau Islands. It contains an inset map with enlarged details of Riouw Harbor on Bintang Island.Coastal profiles are shown in the lower-left corner of the chart.
The chart is prepared by W.H.Dittlof Tjassens, P.A.J.Bloijs van Treslong Prins and J.van Gogh during an expedition in 1840 by the ship Nehalennia under the command of Captain F.G.van der Plaat. The chart is engraved by D.Veelwaard Jr. And published in 1843 by Jacob Swart.
When Gerard Hulst van Keulen died in 1801, his widow ran the firm until her death in 1810, when Johannes Hulst van Keulen became the last van Keulen to run the firm.
In 1823, Jacob Swart entered the service of the van Keulen firm, and in 1844, with the death of Johannes Hulst van Keulen, the head of the van Keulen Chartmakers, was passed to Jacob Swart. When Jacob died in 1866, he was succeeded by his son, Jacob Swart, Jr. Finally the firm's possessions were sold at auction in 1885.
Quarta pars Brabantiae cujus caput Sylvaducis.
The coat of arms of Brabant and 's-Hertogenbosch do appear on the map. But the municipal arms in the columns on right and left-hand side have not yet been filled in. The map was prepared by Willibrordus van der Burgt.Considered one of the most decorative maps published by the publishing house of Blaeu.

This map shows Holland in great detail, including small towns, walled cities, rivers and lakes (many of which were reclaimed in the 17th century, and no longer exist). A coat of arms is in the upper left corner of the map image. In the ocean, there are many sailing ships and smaller fishing boats. An intricate compass rose is in the upper middle area. A very decorative map of the Dutch provinces of Friesland, Groningen and Drente and of the German Province of Friesland.
