Description
A well engraved and highly detailed chart of French Guiana and the island of Cayenne. Made in 1763 by Jacques Bellin (1703-72), a prolific cartographer assigned the Ministry of the French Navy. It shows soundings, anchorage's, channels, shoals, navigational sightings.
Femme de Barèges (106, La Gascogne).
Plate published in "Les costumes régionaux de France" with illustrations by Gratiane de Gardilanne (painter and designer) and Elisabeth Whitney Moffat.Costume plate printed in collotype, pochoir and retouched by hand. Dimension of 24.5 x 38cm. The originals were donated by an American patron to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and constitute a set of 200 plates. Good condition.

Engraved by Pieter Van Den Keere.The Cloppenburg edition "Atlas Sive Cosmographicae Meditationes De Fabrica Mundi Et Fabricati Figura", was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... (Koeman Atlantes Neerlandici).Based on the 1595 Abraham Ortelius map, but with added decoration.
