An original early 17th century copper engraved miniature antique map of the eastern Dutch region of Overijssel by Petrus Bertius. The title is displayed in a simple strapwork cartouche with the further title in bold letters above the map. Prepared by Jacob Surhon who made a manuscript map of Artois for which he received 36 Livres from Charles V in 1554. For security reasons the map was not published. Only in 1579, when Antwerp was independent for a short time, Ortelius used the map for publication in his atlas.This is the last and very rare state with the signature of Theodorus Galle.

This very rare chart is important as the first printed sea chart of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Gibraltar, also depicting the northern coast of Marocco.Willem Barentsz (1560-1597) was a famous pilot, discoverer and cartographer. Author of 'Nieuwe Beschrhryvinghe ende caertboeck van de Midlantsche Zee', the first printed pilot-guide of the Mediterranean. It is considered the supplement of Waghenaer's 'Spieghel der Zeevaerdt' for the Mediterranean waters.
