Description
Very decorate view of New-York. J.Hesse was known as a portrait painter and publisher of lithographs. A long panorama of the shoreline from the sea, with sailing vessels and American steamships in the busy port.
Brasilia.
Fine copy of this map by Krystof Arciszewski, a Polish general who worked for the Dutch West Indian Company. The map perpetuates various myths including the Parime Lago , although it is generally more accurate than its predecessors. Orientated with west to the top. Including the mouth of the Amazon.

In 1624 a heavily armed Dutch fleet sailed from the Juan Fernandez Islands to Lima. The leader of the fleet, Jacob l’Hermite, was in such poor health that he had to hand over command to Admiral Jacobson. The fleet anchored outside the harbour near the island of San Lorenzo (‘I. de Lima’). Cocoa plantations are depicted on the map by a multitude of shrubs. This plan provides information on cocoa productivity and distribution among the owners.
